About us
Why Manchester Picks exists, which Manchester jobs its lists cover, where it stops and how the site is paid for without advertising.
Ask a Chorlton or Prestwich Facebook group for a plumber and you get a long thread of names, a couple of arguments and a firm that stopped trading in the spring. Manchester Picks does that reading for you. For each job it keeps a short list of local businesses that do the work as their trade and keep their customers happy, so two or three phone calls are enough.
What the lists cover
The things people round here actually go looking for. Plumbers, electricians, roofers, damp specialists, double glazing, extensions and loft conversions. Private GPs, blood tests, scans, ADHD and autism assessments, counsellors, chiropodists and care homes. Aesthetic clinics, wedding venues, photographers and halal caterers. Accountants and recruitment agencies, MOT garages and driving instructors, 11 plus tutors and dance schools, solicitors, letting agents and surveyors, mortgage brokers, vets and dog groomers. Lists are published a few at a time, so the site keeps growing.
Manchester, Salford, Trafford and close by
The lists are written for people who live or work in the city, Salford and Trafford, and in places within easy reach such as Didsbury, Chorlton, Ancoats, the Northern Quarter, Deansgate, Salford Quays, Stretford, Sale, Prestwich, Levenshulme, Withington and Fallowfield. Every business shows its address, so you can judge the trip yourself, by car, bus, bike or tram.
What we don’t do
We are not a trade, a clinic or a law firm. We give no medical, legal, financial or building advice, we don’t book appointments or take money from readers, and we don’t inspect anyone’s work. Whatever you agree is between you and the business.
How the site is paid for
There are no adverts on the site. A place on a list is free and money cannot buy one. Once chosen, a business can opt to pay for Pro, which gives it a fuller page with photos and contact buttons, or for Top, which lifts it among the first names on a list it already earned. Each paid plan wears its label, and our order for everyone else stays as it was. Corrections and suggestions are welcome at info@manchesterpicks.co.uk.
